July is a month where much happens in our industry. The new financial year brings with it new budgets, tax returns and forward thinking about the second half of the year. Some even celebrate Christmas in July, a prelude to the festive season and the celebrations that go along with it. School holidays are over and parents breath a sign of relief at the idea of some relaxation and quietude.

New Website Home Page

In my never-ending quest to improve everything we do at Crave, I have re-designed the website (beginning with the homepage and will be progressing from there). The idea is to more accurately identify the Crave Catering brand with the level of food and service we provide. I felt the original site, whilst good did not convey the message of exactly what Crave can do for clients functions. The new site definitely encapsulates this perfectly. Functions

Over the past month Crave Catering has catered some wonderful events, most notably a decadent and luxurious joint 40^th birthday in Malvern. The clients’ generous budget, fabulous taste and wonderful theme (Masquerade) allowed for our creative juices to flow freely and provide a sensational function. Pictures will be posted shortly onto our gallery page for all to see. Guests were treated to cocktails on arrival served by our staff wearing masks (in line with the theme) and savored delicious canapés, substantial canapés and cones of freshly prepared salt and pepper squid (a request from the host). It’s a terrific event that stops only when the boys in blue pop in for a quick chat J)

Opening Parties

We recently conducted a series of mini functions at our new premises to introduce the new facility to our clients (See previous newsletters) with a great response and successful result. Everyone who attended loved what they saw and tasted and most have placed orders for daily style catering as well as for private parties. My thanks goes out to all who came. If you missed out and would like to attend (private or in groups) please let us know and we will run further introduction parties.

Cooking Schools

We have toyed with the idea of running a series of cooking schools and corporate team building exercises at our new kitchen in Richmond and so far have had some very favourable responses. We are seeking further levels of interest before proceeding so if you are interested in learning some new cooking skills or would like to arrange a corporate team building session in the kitchen then please let us know so we can begin panning.

Christmas functions

Spaces are booking quickly so if you would like us to assist we can secure places now so you don’t miss out. Fill in a quote request and we’ll contact you shortly. Let us introduce some of our venues around town that may suit your event or browse our listings on our website. Remember private functions are also a Crave specialty for any weddings, engagements, birthdays or any celebration.

At Crave Catering, we offer our services, free of charge to plan your event with you, well in advance. This also ensures your date, venue and budget can be secured and sealed. There is nothing worse than racing around trying to find a backup location or alternate date with resultant increased costs associated with last minute preparations.

It really is disappointing when people’s reactions and spending decisions are based on media commentary. It’s all doom and gloom in the papers but in reality we, in Australia are in a relatively good position financially speaking. Yes, times are tough, there is no disputing that, however, perceptions of a much bleaker situation are impeding peoples objectives habits. Understandably the high dollar affects some industries more than others but the apparent overall tightening of budgets seems unnecessary.

Having said that, we are seeing a definite trend in the marketplace – both corporate and private where spending is being curbed, so action needs to be taken and as always Crave Catering rolls with the punches. Functions

We were asked to cater a private function at a beautiful house in Hawthorn recently and had the honour of catering for the President of the Czech Republic in an intimate gathering of 14 VIP’s. The function was seamless and judging by the empty plates and delightful comments, the food was considerably enjoyed.

We also recently catered a magnificent gala dinner for the Islamic Museum of Australia for their fundraising night to raise money for their new facility opening soon. Many high profile dignitaries enjoyed canapés followed by a three course feast. A successful event not only for Crave but for the museum too, as was evidenced by the wonderful feedback and comments.

Cooking Schools

A couple of weeks ago we embarked on our first cooking school at the Carlton Brewhouse. We divided the group into teams of three where one cooked the entrée, one the main and one dessert. It was a jovial, exciting and educational evening full of fun and fine food. A tremendous success in every aspect.
